Congratulations to Dr. Gifty Attiah on Receiving the 2026 POLAR Fellowship

We are pleased to congratulate Dr. Gifty Attiah on receiving the 2026 Polar Knowledge Canada (POLAR) Fellowship, a prestigious $50,000 award supporting outstanding early-career researchers conducting research in Canada’s North.

Dr. Attiah received the fellowship for her project, “Scalable field-calibrated sensing framework to quantify climate warming impacts on water quality in small Northern lakes.” Her research combines field observations, remote sensing, and innovative monitoring approaches to improve our understanding of how climate change is affecting water quality in northern freshwater ecosystems. The project will help develop scalable tools to support environmental monitoring and informed decision-making for northern communities.

The POLAR Fellowship recognizes exceptional postdoctoral and visiting researchers whose work advances Northern and polar science while addressing priorities identified by northern communities. We congratulate Dr. Attiah on this well-deserved achievement and look forward to the important contributions her research will make to northern freshwater science.
