Homa took part in an alumni engagement event in Ottawa on Sept. 18, contributing her expertise on the challenges and opportunities facing Canada’s North. The event, part of Laurier’s national alumni series hosted by Chancellor Nadir Patel, brought together alumni, researchers, and northern leaders to explore the role of research and collaboration in strengthening Canada’s sovereignty in the Arctic.

As Executive Director of the Cold Regions Research Centre and Canada Research Chair in Remote Sensing of Environmental Change, she offered a scientific perspective during a panel discussion alongside Ann Fitz-Gerald and Joe Dragon. She emphasized the urgent need for data-driven solutions and infrastructure investment to support northern communities facing climate-driven challenges.
